Join us Saturday, September 12 from 10am-1:30pm for STEM Saturday: The Cajun Prairie, sponsored by a grant from Halliburton. Learn about the natural history of our region’s tallgrass coastal prairie ecosystem and the soil, flora and fauna that once comprised an area of 2.5 million acres called the Cajun Prairie. Examine insect, grass and soil specimens and information with biologist and educator Dr. Phyllis Baudoin Griffard. The accompanying short documentary, Louisiana Grass Roots, directed by Gillian Godshall and produced by Dr. Griffard will be shown in the museum’s auditorium during this time.
STEM Saturday activities are included with regular museum admission. Activities are open-ended allowing visitors to come and go while touring exhibits and the planetarium. Best for elementary and middle school ages, but older kids and adults can have fun learning something new or helping younger children.
