Lafayette, LA – Lafayette's first Mini Maker Faire is scheduled for March 24, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. downtown at the Lafayette Science Museum. LSM and Lafayette Public Library have partnered to produce the free event celebrating do-it-yourself creativity and learning-by-doing.
“We are excited to really wow our attendees this Saturday with a family-friendly day of everything from robotics, DIY science and technology, local artisans, hobbyists, crafts, music and hands-on workshops,” said LSM Director Kevin Krantz. “Our Mini Maker Faire is part science fair, part festival and part something entirely new, and the best part is that it's completely FREE!”
Makers will be set up at booths throughout the museum and outside along Congress Street between Jefferson and Polk Streets. Booths will feature a mixture of hands-on activities, demonstrations and hand-made items for sale.
Makers will share knowledge of their crafts, demonstrate what they make and the tools they use like 3D printers, micro controllers, computer software, quilting machines, laser cutters, bread making tools, pottery wheels and other supplies.

Workshops held in two of the museum's classrooms will include Free-form Hand Embroidery, Polymer Synthesis: The Art of Slime, Bicycle Maintenance and How to Build a 3D Printer.
Presentations in the museum's auditorium will cover topics such as Home Beer Brewing, Wifi-Enabled Washing Machine, Patent Law and Intellectual Property Protections and Video Production by AOC's Radical Reporters.
Outdoor activities will include power wheels racing, blacksmith demonstrations, Ruben's tube, fire balls and wood-fired ceramics.
