Documentary Date Night 9/26
Join us at UL Lafayette Science Museum for Documentary Date Night – a free screening of the documentary film “The Last Ice.” Popcorn is a must, but the date is optional for this chance to see a science-focused film at the museum. Who says date night can’t be educational? Doors open at 6:30 pm, film begins at 7 pm. A discussion will follow. Concessions will be available for sale (cashonly). About the film: As the sea ice between Canada and Greenland melts, the outside world sees unprecedented opportunity. Oil and gas deposits, faster shipping routes, tourism and fishing all provide financial incentive to exploit the newly opened waters. But for more than 100,000 Inuit who live in the Arctic, on and around the frozen ocean, an entire way of life is at stake. Development here threatens to upset the balance between their communities, land and wildlife, leaving the future of this region and their culture increasingly uncertain.
